🚗 Car Title Notary Services
Q: Do I need a notary for my car title transfer in Ohio?
Yes. In Ohio, car titles must be notarized to complete a legal ownership transfer, whether you're buying, selling, gifting, or inheriting a vehicle.
Q: What documents do I need to notarize my car title?
You’ll need:
-
Seller must present the vehicle title
-
A valid government-issued photo ID of seller
Q: Can you notarize car titles on weekends or after business hours?
Yes! Notary of Lewis Center offers evening and weekend appointments for your convenience. We also provide mobile notary services
Q: What if the car owner is not available to sign in person?
If the owner can't be present, a Power of Attorney (POA) document may be used. We can help notarize that as well, including Remote Online Notary (RON) if needed.
Q: Can I notarize a car title remotely (RON)?
No, car titles themselves cannot be notarized through Remote Online Notarization (RON) in Ohio. The Ohio BMV requires that vehicle titles be physically signed and notarized in person by a commissioned notary public.
However, if the vehicle owner cannot be present, they may execute a Power of Attorney (POA) document, which can be notarized via RON if the signer is located remotely. Once the POA is notarized, the authorized agent can present the POA and complete the title transaction in person at the BMV.
⚖️ This process allows flexibility for remote parties while complying with Ohio BMV title requirements. Always verify with your local BMV branch to ensure acceptance of RON-notarized POAs for title transactions.
Q: Do both the buyer and seller need to be present for a title notarization?
No, only the seller is required to be present at the time of notarization, provided they have all the necessary information to complete the title accurately.
To properly notarize the Ohio certificate of title, the seller must provide the following:
-
Buyer’s full legal name
-
Buyer’s residential address
-
Agreed-upon sale price
-
Current odometer reading
The seller must complete the assignment section of the title in front of the notary, and the notary will verify identity and witness the signature. The buyer is not required to be physically present for this step. However, the buyer will need to sign the title later when submitting the transfer to the BMV.
Q: Do you notarize out-of-state or duplicate titles?
Yes, we can notarize out-of-state, duplicate, or replacement titles, as long as you provide the required identification and documentation.
